Grievance Redress Service

Global Bank Group is committed to enhancing opportunities for grievance redress, collaborative problem solving, and alternative dispute resolution on the projects it supports. Global Bank’s corporate Grievance Redress Service (GRMs) is an effective tool for early identification, assessment, and resolution of complaints on projects. The Global Bank Executive Board and senior management are supporting effective approaches to problem-solving to help strengthen Global Bank's performance and development outcomes.

The Independent Redress Mechanism (IRM) deals with complaints about adverse effects from Global Bank or other Global Bank Group mechanisms, agencies, funds, and programmes supported project activities, while the Independent Integrity Unit (IIU) investigates allegations of prohibited practices, such as fraud and corruption. The Independent Evaluation Unit (IEU) evaluates Global Bank and other Global Bank Group mechanisms, agencies, funds, and programmes supported project activities and policies independently, and provides strategic information about Global Bank’s Impact, effectiveness, and efficiency.

These units operate independently from the Global Bank and other Global Bank Group mechanisms, agencies, funds, and programmes and report directly to the Global Bank Group Executive Board, which oversees the Bank Group’s management.

Communities and individuals who believe that they are adversely affected by Global Bank or other Global Bank Group mechanisms, agencies, funds, and programmes supported project activities may submit complaints to existing project-level grievance redress mechanisms or the Global Bank’s Grievance Redress Service (GRS). The Global Bank’s Grievance Redress Service ensures that complaints received are promptly reviewed to address project-related concerns.
